NEW YORK (AP) - The Bronx district attorney has secured the Democratic nomination for state Supreme Court justice.

Robert Johnson expressed his interest to serve as a justice last week.

Bronx Democratic delegates at a judicial nominating convention voted unanimously Thursday to give the longtime prosecutor the nod for the open court position.

The New York Times says the executive board of the county Democratic committee also voted behind closed doors to give his spot on the Nov. 3 ballot for district attorney to Justice Darcel Clark of the state appellate court. She was a former prosecutor in Johnson’s office.

Johnson had been running unopposed for re-election.

He says he’ll serve out his term, which ends Dec. 31.
