CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago police say an officer has shot and wounded a man armed with a box cutter.

Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi (goo-lee-EHL’-mee) says the shooting happened Friday night when police were responding to a domestic disturbance at a home on the city’s west side.

He said an adult male was holding “a knife-like object” and didn’t follow police orders to drop it.

Guigliemi says officers tried twice to shock the man with a Taser, but that didn’t work.

He says officers again asked the man to drop his weapon, but the man didn’t comply. That’s when an officer shot him.

Guigliemi says the man was taken to a hospital with critical wounds.

He says police recovered a box cutter from the scene.

No officers were hurt.
