DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) - A committee searching for Dickinson State University’s next president has decided to keep its recommendation for finalists a week after one of the two withdrew from the race.

The committee had chosen Peru State College President Daniel Hanson and Trinity College vice president and faculty dean Thomas Mitzel as finalists after conducting interviews with five semifinalists. Peru State is in Nebraska and Trinity is in Connecticut.

But Hanson issued a statement that he was withdrawing from the race, a decision that left Mitzel as the sole candidate for next week’s final interview in front of the state Board of Higher Education.

The committee on Friday voted not to recommend any additional candidates to the board.

Former President D.C. Coston stepped down in August due to health concerns.
