HELENA, Mont. (AP) - An 18-year-old East Helena man has been given a six-year deferred sentence for stealing a silver bowl and custom wooden donation box from the Cathedral of St. Helena.

KTVH-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1KA0zaC ) District Judge James Reynolds ordered Gary Bristol to attend a 90-day military style boot camp. Co-defendant Nicoline George earlier received a six-month deferred sentence for felony theft.

Both were held responsible for just over $4,000 in restitution.

As part of Bristol’s plea agreement on the felony theft charge, prosecutors agreed to drop a charge of desecrating a place of worship. Prosecutors alleged Bristol urinated in the cathedral.

Charging documents say a surveillance camera captured images of Bristol and George stealing the donation box and trying to break into another donation box.
