BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities have arrested a man who allegedly clobbered a demonstrator with a hammer in Berkeley while trying to break into an electronics store during a Black Lives Matter protest in December.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1LRLVJV ) that Jayne Waller was arrested Monday for assault with a deadly weapon, felony battery and burglary.

Police say the 20-year-old suspect had been with a small group of protesters who vandalized and looted businesses during the Dec. 7 protest. A 55-year-old demonstrator tried to intervene as the group was breaking into a Radio Shack when the suspect hit him in the head with a hammer.

The victim was treated at a hospital for serious injuries.

Waller is being held on $120,000 bail. His pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Monday in Oakland.
