HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. (AP) - Police in eastern Arkansas say a man who was mistakenly released from the Cross County jail this week has been picked up.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported (https://bit.ly/1KUHWj9 ) that Cross County officials had found 53-year-old Willie J. Ross. Helena-West Helena Police Chief Virgil Green said Ross’ family contacted police Friday morning after seeing news reports about his being released accidentally.

Ross was being held on $1 million bond on suspicion of rape, attempted murder and domestic battery. Police said he was accidentally released Monday after being identified as another inmate with the same last name.

Though Ross is charged in Phillips County, he is being held in Cross County because Phillips County doesn’t have a jail in operation.

Green said he did not have a record of Ross having an attorney.
