OAK PARK, Mich. (AP) - Investigators say more than $430,000 was embezzled from a Detroit suburb by a deputy clerk and her husband.

Stephanie Sumner and Michael Sumner appeared in Oak Park court Friday without lawyers. A judge entered not-guilty pleas.

Stephanie Sumner was fired in March after working for Oak Park for about three years. The Detroit News (https://bit.ly/1NZi7Rs ) says her husband worked part-time under her supervision.

City Manager Erik Tungate says the lost money has been replaced by an insurer. Oakland County sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Cole declined to say how the alleged crime was pulled off for a few years.
