NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - While 300 is a number that is on the minds of many as the Natchez’s 300th birthday approaches, tricentennial officials say the number 17 is critical, too.

That’s how many custom tricentennial license plates organizers need to sell before Oct. 2.

Natchez Tricentennial Executive Director Jennifer Ogden Combs tells The Natchez Democrat (https://bit.ly/1LBIZp0) in order for the state to produce the commemorative license plates, 300 need to be ordered by the Oct. 2 deadline.

So far, the tricentennial commission has sold 283 license plates, which feature a silhouetted view of the Mississippi River Bridge and a small icon of a riverboat sailing into the sunset.

Proceeds from the license plate sales also benefit tourism efforts in Natchez.
