SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) - Officials at the Shinnecock Indian reservation on eastern Long Island say they are preparing for a visit from U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.

The Department of the Interior says Jewell will visit Oct. 1.

The tribe is preparing a welcome that will include a traditional honoring song in the Shinnecock language.

That will be followed by a tour of the reservation, which is in the town of Southampton, one of the most affluent communities in the country. Jewell also is expected to meet with the nation’s Council of Trustees.

The visit marks the fifth anniversary of the tribe’s formal recognition by the United States government.
