EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - A Mississippi man has been found guilty of murdering his girlfriend at a motel room in Springfield, Oregon.

The Register-Guard newspaper of Eugene reports (https://is.gd/pws5Yh ) that jurors deliberated for less than an hour Thursday before convicting 26-year-old Jonathan Folks of Hattiesburg. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 2.

Folks testified he strangled Donna Perry last November because he believed a demon had taken over her body. A psychiatrist hired by the defense said he believed the killer was experiencing methamphetamine-induced psychosis.

Prosecutor David Schwartz told jurors that Folks was a possessive boyfriend upset that Perry had been out with friends before returning to their motel room.

Perry and Folks had traveled from Mississippi to Oregon to help clean the site of a plywood mill that burned down.
