BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) - A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to a year-and-a-half in state prison for spraying alcohol on a young pit bull’s face and setting it on fire.

Saratoga County District Attorney Karen Heggen said Friday her office refused to plea bargain in the case of Scott Cusson Jr. of Clifton Park.

Cusson had previously pleaded guilty to aggravated cruelty to animals for setting 9-month-old Roxy on fire last February. The dog’s owner at the time was charged with a misdemeanor for waiting two days to get the dog to a veterinarian. That case is pending.

Heggen says Roxy is doing well in a new home.
