CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) - A Portsmouth couple has claimed a $1 million prize in the Virginia Lottery.

Lottery officials said Thursday in a news release that Matthew and Jewelee Dooley claimed the prize from a scratch-off ticket purchased in Chesapeake.

The couple took the full amount of the jackpot in an annuity over the next 30 years instead of a one-time cash option of $357,000 before taxes.

They plan to pay bills and help pay for their children’s college.
