GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A Catholic school in western Michigan has announced a fund development campaign to build a new chapel.

Aquinas College says Saturday that the Our Lady Seat of Wisdom chapel will be the centerpiece of its 117-acre campus in Grand Rapids.

It will seat 300 and be open to students, faculty, staff and the community.

Aquinas President Juan Olivarez says the chapel “will serve as a symbol of faith for all visitors to campus.”

The plans mark the first time in the school’s history that a campus building will be built with the intent of being a chapel. The current chapel, Bukowski Chapel, was the original stables for the Holmdene Estate and later was transformed into a chapel.

The liberal arts college has more than 2,300 students in 60 academic programs.
