OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - The DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge is offering free admission Saturday to celebrate National Public Lands Day.

The event is part of the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve the public lands that Americans enjoy. Fee-free days are offered throughout the year to encourage Americans to explore national parts, wildlife refuges, forests and other public lands.

Other fee free days are Oct. 11, the first day of National Wildlife Refuge Week, and Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day.

The DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge is located south of U.S. Highway 30 between Missouri Valley, Iowa and Blair, Nebraska.
