MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermonters are encouraged to get rid of expired or unused prescription drugs during the national Drug Take Back Day.

The event takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at many law enforcement agencies around the state.

It’s intended to ensure unwanted drugs stay out of reach of people who might abuse them.

Last year more than 3,000 pounds of unused drugs were collected in Vermont during the September event.
