FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - A Fort Myers law firm has filed suit against Volkswagen in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida and seeks more than $5 million in damages, accusing the carmaker of false advertising and other deceptive practices.

The News-Press reports (https://bit.ly/1VfW8Vm) the lead plaintiff is a Naples resident who bought a Volkswagen Passat SEL TDI diesel in August 2014. It was advertised as low-emission, fuel-efficient “clean diesel.”

The attorney for the plaintiff says more than 100 southwest Florida residents inquired about joining a class-action suit against Volkswagen.

The company’s CEO quit and Volkswagen said it was suspending some employees and would reorganize its North America operations after acknowledging it used a piece of engine software to cheat on diesel car emissions tests in the U.S.
