BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - U.S. Sen. Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota met with Sen. Joe Donnelly of Indiana in Bismarck on Saturday to talk about their bill requiring the Environmental Protection Agency to revise a rule that would give the federal government jurisdiction over some smaller waterways.

Heitkamp says their bill would send the rule back to the EPA to redo, this time by first listening to the concerns of the farmers and ranchers who know their land best.

The two Democrats say they have heard from farmers, ranchers and small business owners who are unclear on how the rule’s sweeping regulations could impact the way they are allowed to use their land.

The lawmakers held a roundtable discussion in Bismarck with agricultural, civic, and business leaders.
