MARBLE HILL, Mo. (AP) - A first-degree murder charge has been dropped against a southeast Missouri man who killed his brother last year.

The Southeast Missourian (https://bit.ly/1NTrikX ) reports 43-year-old Lonnie Liley was charged with murder after shooting 50-year-old Jessie Liley on Jan. 23, 2014. Earlier this month a coroner’s jury found that Lonnie Liley had acted in self-defense.

Bollinger County prosecutor Heath Robins on Friday said he was compelled to dismiss the case because of evidence presented at the coroner’s inquest.

Lonnie Liley told police he shot his brother after Jessie Liley shoved Lonnie Liley’s mother out of the way and tried to grab his gun.

He told police his mother believed Jessie Liley and his girlfriend were using “dope” and had tried to evict them from the rural Bollinger County trailer where they lived.
