AKRON, Ohio (AP) - Police say an officer fatally shot a robbery suspect during a confrontation in Akron - the second police-involved shooting in that city this week.

A statement says two men, one armed with a gun, tried to rob a small grocery store around 1 p.m. Friday and that the men fled after a clerk threw her purse at them.

Police say officers were told by witnesses that one of the robbers rode off on a bicycle. Police say officers confronted the 21-year-old man behind the business and that one of the officers fired several shots during a confrontation. The man died at a hospital. The man who brandished the gun hasn’t been arrested.

Police haven’t provided further details and haven’t identified the dead suspect or the officer who shot him.
