HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A former civilian employee of the Hartford police department has been arrested on charges she stole marijuana and pills from the department’s property room.

Authorities say 40-year-old Liza Aponte turned herself into police on Wednesday. She’s charged with larceny and unlawful removal of records.

Police say Aponte stole three bags of property from the police department’s property room. She oversaw the room that stores evidence including drugs, money, jewelry and weapons.

Investigators began looking into Aponte after a supervisor noticed a bag of marijuana was missing. Authorities eventually found that two more bags were gone. All three contained small amounts of marijuana and one also contained pills.

She was fired Sept. 3 after an administrative process. It’s unclear if she has an attorney.
