LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - Plans to expand the University of Wyoming’s main athletic training center have received a big funding boost.

The university on Saturday announced a $6 million gift from the McMurry Foundation.

The $6 million will be joined with $6 million in contributions by family, friends and business partners honoring the life of the late Mick McMurry. In turn, this $12 million will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the state of Wyoming.

That means a total of $24 million will go toward the $44 million expansion of the Rochelle Athletics Center.

The new training facility will be named the Mick and Susie McMurry High Altitude Performance Center.

The center will be built onto the current Curtis and Marian Rochelle Athletics Center on the north end of War Memorial Stadium.
