Al.com reports (https://bit.ly/1MQdskL ) that firefighters discovered the woman unconscious in the first floor hallway after responding to around 11:30 p.m. Friday to the blaze of a two-story home.

Hoover Fire Executive Officer Rusty Lowe says firefighters tried to resuscitate her. She was taken to UAB Medical West where she was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 12:36 a.m. Saturday.

Lowe says it appears the fire started on the first floor of the home, and spread upstairs. He says it took firefighters about 20 minutes to extinguish the fire.

Investigators say they haven’t determined the cause of the fire. The woman was a mother of one child, but was not home at the time of the fire.
