ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Asheville police say a 29-year-old man originally arrested on a charge of trafficking heroin has now been charged with killing a man at a motel nearly two years ago.

Authorities said Mauricus Fleming shot 41-year-old William Pernas-Baraqui of Miami Gardens, Florida, and stole money and $7,000 worth of drugs from him at the Nakon Motel in November 2013.

Fleming was arrested Friday on the drug charge, and police added a first-degree murder charge a day later. Investigators didn’t say what evidence linked Fleming to the 2013 killing.

Fleming remains in jail. It wasn’t known if he had a lawyer.
