ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra has appointed Ralph Craviso as its interim president and chief executive officer.

He will take over on Oct. 1, following the departure of Charles Owens, who is leaving Sept. 30 after eight years leading the upstate New York group.

RPO officials said Friday that Craviso has worked with more than 60 orchestras across the country throughout his management consulting firm, Craviso & Associates. A former executive with Lucent Technologies, he is currently director of a master’s program in performing arts administration at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts.

The Rochester orchestra performs about 160 concerts and broadcasts each year.
