DIAMONDHEAD, Miss. (AP) - Diamondhead’s public library is closing.

Hancock Library System spokeswoman Mary Perkins says the decision to close the East Hancock Public Library is due to funding cuts.

WLOX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1OB2b7Y ) the vote to close the library follows a $42,000 cut from the county’s board of supervisors. The library has seen $73,000 in cuts over the past several years.

The brand new facility opened in 2013. It’s expected to close its doors on or before Dec. 31.
