FALMOUTH, Maine (AP) - The family of an 81-year-old Falmouth woman stricken by Alzheimer’s disease is giving $2 million to a Boston hospital.

The Portland Press Herald reports (https://bit.ly/1iD37eD ) the donation will create the Josephine and John Marr Alzheimer’s Research Fund at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.

John Marr says he decided to donate the money after speaking about it with his five children. The 83-year-old says he wanted to fund research, but was worried that his donation would go down “the rabbit hole.”

He says the disease has robbed his wife, 81-year-old Josephine Marr, of her voice and her ability to feed, clothe or bathe herself.

Dr. Dennis Selkoe, a neurologist at the hospital, says their goal is to create a treatment that slows or prevents the disease from developing.
