NITRO, W.Va. (AP) - The United Steelworkers says union workers have rejected Mardi Gras Casino and Resort’s insurance offer and authorized a strike.

The union says in a news release that members of USW Local 14614-F9 rejected the Nitro resort’s offer during negotiations on Friday. The negotiations regarding insurance began the first week of August.

At issue is a proposed increase in employees’ insurance premiums.

The union says the company also wants to eliminate its ability to bargain over future employee insurance changes and costs.
