PORT BARRE, La. (AP) - Port Barre Police Chief Deon Boudreaux says one of his officers is under investigation for assault.

KATC-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1MyiiA1 ) the allegations were made against the officer by a Port Barre resident.

Boudreaux said Friday that the officer denied the allegations and then resigned.

The officer, who is not facing any charges at this time, is also a deputy city marshal for Opelousas. Opelousas City Marshal Paul Mouton says the individual is on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Because he’s not been charged in the case, his name has not been released.
