KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Hundreds of paper Chinese lanterns were released toward the sky during an event in western Michigan.

The Kalamazoo Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1O3kEdj ) Sunday that more than 1,000 people participated in Saturday’s “Lights in the Night” launch outside Kalamazoo Speedway.

County Undersheriff Paul Matyas has said he was concerned that the lit and rising lanterns might distract some motorists, but no traffic problems were reported.

No fires were reported from the lanterns or falling debris.
