LANSING, Mich. (AP) - A one-mile walk, the planting of a “peace pole” and talks by Christian and Muslim leaders are highlights of a planned event at Lansing’s Potter Park Zoo.

The Sunday event is being held to celebrate last week’s International Day of Peace, the U.S. visit of Pope Francis and the 70th anniversary of the United Nations’ founding. It also marks the accord backed by the Obama administration and negotiated with Iran and five world powers to curb Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.

The Peace Day March is being organized by the Greater Lansing United Nations Association and co-sponsored by several Michigan State University programs, mid-Michigan churches and other groups.
