GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Piceance Energy and Questar Corp. have agreed to a joint venture to drill 80 natural gas wells in the Collbran area of Mesa County in a deal that could grow to 300 wells.

According to the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel (https://tinyurl.com/n9r9lgw ), the agreement provides promise for the immediate future of drilling in northwestern Colorado’s Piceance Basin, where activity has fallen off due to low commodity prices.

Questar, based in Salt Lake City, said in a news release that its subsidiary oil and gas developer, Wexpro Co., has reached the deal with Piceance Energy to drill 80 wells starting in October and continuing through early 2017. Wexpro plans to spend $60 million to $70 million on that program, targeting the Mesaverde sandstone formation.
