PEA RIDGE, Ark. (AP) - Civil War enthusiasts are gathering in Arkansas this weekend to re-enact the 1862 Battle of Pea Ridge.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1KYp5Ui ) that up to 1,200 re-enactors and as many as 10,000 spectators were expected through Sunday in this town during the three-day event, which is put on by the nonprofit Arkansas Reenactors Educational Association.

The event features men and women in uniform carrying rifles or manning artillery pieces at encampments, joined by wives and daughters baking and cooking over campfires. Stores sell period clothing, uniforms and other equipment to attendees, while musicians play Civil War-era songs.

Proceeds from the event go to historical preservation through organizations such as the Pea Ridge National Military Park Foundation.
