NORWALK, Conn. (AP) - Police say a family of 11 people is safe after their boat began taking on water in the Long Island Sound.

Rescue crews from the Norwalk Police and Fire Department helped rescue the family from the sinking boat Saturday night.

The boat began taking on water near Shea Island, located about a mile from the shoreline.

The entire family evacuated the boat safely and was taken to Shea Island.

No one was injured, though two children were evaluated for exposure.

Officials say the group was camping and had returned to their boat to head back to shore when it sustained a mechanical issue.
