TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A man on trial in a hit-and-run double homicide in Tucson has been found guilty.

A jury delivered its verdicts Monday against 29-year-old Michael Leday (luh-DAY) He was convicted of second-degree murder in the deaths of Patrick Balbastro and Cindy Burnett on New Year’s Day in 2014.

Authorities say Leday and Burnett had been arguing when Balbastro and his girlfriend, Valerie Calonge, stopped to help. Authorities say Leday then jumped into Balbastro’s vehicle and ran over the three of them.

Calonge survived. Leday was acquitted of an attempted first-degree murder charge in the injury of Calonge but found guilty of aggravated assault.

Leday fled the state after the incident. The U.S. Marshals Service arrested him weeks later in Missouri.

He’s scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 7.
