SEATTLE (AP) - The King County Council has chosen a Bellevue attorney to replace Ross Hunter in the Washington House of Representatives.

The council on Monday unanimously approved a motion appointing Patty Kuderer to fill the vacancy in the 48th legislative district.

Hunter resigned and took a new job as director of the state Department of Early Learning.

Kuderer is head of the Kuderer Law Group. She is a graduate of the University of Minnesota and received her law degree from the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.

She will serve one year in the Legislature until she has to run in the 2016 election if she wants to keep the seat.

Kuderer has served as the national communications director for The Peace Alliance, a group that encourages civic engagement toward peace.
