PARMA, Ohio (AP) - A suburban Cleveland elementary school was closed for a day to allow pest control workers to rid the building of bed bugs discovered last week.

A statement from the Parma school district says officials closed Thoreau Park Elementary School on Monday to treat areas of the building where bed bugs were found. A teacher told school administrators at the conclusion of the school day Friday about having possibly seen bed bugs, which pest control specialists then confirmed.

A district spokesman says it’s expected that the school will reopen Tuesday. The statement says the district will be using a contractor to keep the building free of bed bugs and will be consulting with the Cuyahoga (ky-uh-HOH’-guh) County Health Department.
