PROVO, Utah (AP) - A new study says a dam and reservoir in Payson could be constructed to meet the needs of the city and state-mandated safety requirements.

The Herald Journal reports (https://goo.gl/XodWC2) that feasibility study released this month found that there were not geologic fatal flaws that would prevent the construction of a large dam in Payson Canyon.

Councilman Kim Hancock says the potential reservoir, which would tentatively be located a few miles up Payson Canyon, is “a big deal” for the city.

Councilman Larry Skinner also says a large part of Payson’s future depends on having more water available.
