BEDFORD, Va. (AP) - Construction on a nearly $35 million water project serving Bedford and Forest is scheduled to begin next week.

The Lakes to Forest Project will transport water from Smith Mountain Lake to Bedford and Forest. It includes a new water treatment plant.

The News & Advance (https://bit.ly/1KMUJkn ) reports that the first phase of construction will begin Oct. 5.

Work on the project was expected to begin in late August. Bedford Regional Water Authority executive director Brian Key says the project was delayed by permitting snags.
