SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - Two men were arrested after a panga boat carrying marijuana washed up on a Santa Barbara County beach.

Sheriff’s officials say a resident walking his dog Monday in Gaviota State Park spotted the 30-foot-long boat in the waves and called authorities.

Deputies and a Coast Guard crew found a bale of marijuana inside the twin-engine panga and another nearby.

Nobody was inside the boat but two suspects found in the area were detained.

Following an investigation, detectives arrested 32-year-old Francisco Soltero and 38-year-old James Pierce, both from the Riverside area.

They could face charges including possession, transportation and sale of marijuana.

It wasn’t immediately known if the suspects have lawyers.
