PAINESVILLE, Ohio (AP) - A county family services agency has been granted custody of an 11-year-old girl found incompetent to stand trial for the fatal beating of a 2-month-old during a sleepover at her mother’s home.

A Lake County Juvenile Court judge ruled Monday that the county should take temporary custody of the girl to help her get the intensive care she needs. The girl has been held at the county’s juvenile detention center since her arrest following the Feb. 6 fatal beating of Zuri Whitehead in Wickliffe.

A court administrator says the girl will be sent to live at a residential facility where she will receive mental health treatment.

The judge is required to formally dismiss juvenile murder charges against the girl in early October after finding her incompetent on July 9.
