DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Staffers are checking how and where city operations could be relocated during renovation work on Des Moines City Hall.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1Voefsp ) that the City Hall, which opened in 1912, will be getting new heating and cooling equipment and a sprinkler system. The more than $3 million project is expected to begin next summer and take 18 months to complete.

Deputy City Manager Carl Metzger says relocating operations would give contractors unlimited access to the building and might result in a shorter project.
