COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Police say a man apparently drowned while swimming in a pond at a central Ohio apartment complex.

Columbus police say the drowning was reported to police late Sunday night at the complex in the city’s northern suburbs. WCMH-TV says a man reported that his friend went into the water and didn’t return, and emergency responders found a pile of clothes at the pond.

WBNS-TV reports a dive team found the missing man in the pond less than an hour after the initial report. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have identified the man as 30-year-old Thang Khan Kim. He was from the southeast Asian country of Myanmar (mee-an-MAWR’), and had been in the United States since April.
