BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (AP) - A school bus driver has been jailed on charges that he touched a child on his bus route.

Local media outlets report police arrested 68-year-old Charles R. Davis on Friday after an incident that reportedly took place on Sept. 18. Sheriff Steve Rushing says Davis has been charged with “touching or handling a child for lustful purposes.”

Davis’s daughter, Stephanie Jordan, says the entire incident is a misunderstanding. Jordan says her father had been waiting with a girl on the bus for her parents to come get her. She says the two were playing and he tugged on her pants in a manner that was not lustful.

Davis turned himself into police when he learned of the charges. He was released on $25,000 bond over the weekend.
