RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A Franklin County woman is facing child abuse and drug charges after they say she was found unconscious on her front porch while her toddler was found alone in a street more than a quarter-mile away.

Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver tells local media that a driver told deputies that she had rescued a 3-year-old girl Friday morning she had seen wandering down a busy Russellville roadway.

Deputies say they found the girl’s mother, 28-year-old Brandi Owsley, unconscious on the porch. Authorities say they found prescription pills and drug paraphernalia in the home.

Owsley has been charged with first-degree child abuse, four counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance and one count of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Franklin County Department of Human Resources is supervising the child.
