SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (AP) - Navistar says it plans to expand its western Ohio truck plant by making a $12.8 million investment that will add 300 jobs.

The Springfield News-Sun (https://bit.ly/1YKIAWk ) reports the Ohio Tax Credit Authority approved a 60 percent, six-year state income tax credit for the Illinois-based manufacturer on Monday.

The application to the tax board says that the new jobs at Navistar’s Springfield plant will mean $10.3 million in payroll and the added help has the potential to double vehicle production at the facility.

An official with the Chamber of Greater Springfield calls it “a huge psychological victory” for the community.

Navistar currently employs between 1,400 and 1,500 workers at its Clark County manufacturing site, including management and contractors.
