ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (AP) - Fire officials in Vermont say a woman was seriously hurt after a garbage truck rolled on top of her car, trapping her inside.

Essex Fire Chief Charles Cole says the crash happened Monday afternoon when the driver of the truck lost control turning a corner and turned over on its side. First responders called heavy wreckers to move the garbage truck and extricate her from the silver BMW.

The woman was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center in “unstable” condition with serious injuries. Her identity has not been released.

Cole says the driver of the garbage truck was uninjured.

The truck is owned by Casella Waste Systems.

Authorities are investigating. Route 128 remained closed to traffic as of 9 p.m.
