TIPP CITY, Ohio (AP) - A western Ohio Republican state legislator says he’s running for the U.S. House seat being vacated by Speaker John Boehner (BAY’-nur).

Second-term Sen. Bill Beagle of Tipp City is a former city councilman. He says in a statement he’ll offer the 8th District a conservative, problem-solving leader with “the fortitude to get things done.”

Beagle joins what’s expected to be a crowded field for a Republican-dominated district that stretches from northern Cincinnati suburbs across six western Ohio counties. Boehner announced last Friday he was leaving Congress on Oct. 30. He first won his House seat in 1990.

Troy teacher J.D. Winteregg is running for the seat again after getting 23 percent of the 2014 primary vote against Boehner.

Primary and general election dates for the seat haven’t been determined.
