MERIDEN, Conn. (AP) - Police say a pedestrian in his 50s has been hospitalized after he was hit by a car in Meriden.

Police responded Monday afternoon after a reported crash involving a vehicle and pedestrian. The pedestrian was found on the ground with injuries to his head and upper torso.

An ambulance took him to Midstate Hospital. He was then airlifted to Hartford Hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. His condition is currently unknown.

Police are not releasing his name until his family is notified. They say a 19-year-old man was driving the vehicle at the time.

Authorities are investigating.
