ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Closing statements are scheduled in the trial of a former Ivy League student charged with fatally shooting his father inside the family’s suburban Rochester home earlier this year.

A week of testimony wrapped up Monday in Monroe County Court in the second-degree murder trial of 19-year-old Charles Tan of Pittsford. Prosecutors and defense attorneys will make their closing statements Tuesday, with the jury expected to get the case afterward.

Prosecutors say Tan used a shotgun to kill his father, 49-year-old Liang “Jim” Tan, in early February inside the family’s home in an upscale neighborhood. The younger man was enrolled at Cornell University in Ithaca at the time of the shooting.

Testimony has revolved around a history of abuse Tan’s defense team says existed in the family’s home.
