DANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a pedestrian has been killed by a Tri-Rail train in South Florida.

The incident occurred around 5 a.m. Tuesday at the Dania Beach Station near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The train was heading north when it struck the pedestrian.

Broward Sheriff’s officials said it’s unclear why the victim was on the tracks and said he may have had some sort of visual impairment which caused him to become disoriented.

The victim’s identity was not released.

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority said the crash caused “major delays” during Tuesday morning’s rush hour.
